Umair Javed is a PhD candidate in Political Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science. His research interests span the study of Pakistanâ€™s emergent middle classes, state-society relations in the global South, and the political economy of governance and reform in democratising countries. He has previously worked as a researcher at the Department of Human Geography, Kingâ€™s College London, the Center for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP), and as a governance specialist at The Asia Foundation. Umair Javed currently writes a fortnightly current affairs column for Pakistanâ€™s premier English language daily, DAWN. His academic and opinion writings have been published in Economic and Political Weekly (EPW), Herald, The National, Business Standard, and The Friday Times.
Javed has a MSc in Politics from School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
