Kulsum Ahmed has over 25 years of experience in climate and environmental sustainability. She worked at the World Bank for 24 years. Prior to her retirement at the end of 2016, Dr. Ahmed was the Practice Manager in the Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Global Practice, leading a large team of people based in multiple countries working on environment, natural resource and climate programs in Western and Eastern European countries, Russia, Turkey and Central Asia.
She has also led projects in the Latin America and Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa and Asia Regions, many of which are featured in journals and publications. Dr. Ahmed also established and led the Bank-wide global programs on environmental institutions and governance, as well as pollution management and environmental health.
She has published extensively on strategic environmental assessment, environmental health, industrial pollution, and green growth topics. Dr. Ahmed studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Imperial College, London. Currently Dr. Ahmed’s focus is on raising awareness of climate and environmental issues and solutions to address them in Pakistan and on helping stakeholders who want to improve quality-of-life, related to environmental and climate factors, for all Pakistanis.
