Consortium for Development Policy Research (CDPR) hosted its twenty-eighth Lahore Policy Exchange, titled “The Doing Good Index: Maximizing Pakistan’s Potential”.

The inaugural Doing Good Index (DGI) has benchmarked identified parameters for assisting in catalyzing philanthropic inclinations in society. Asian countries, including Pakistan, can become global leaders in social innovation for driving more and better quality philanthropy, not only through mobilizing private social investment, but by reevaluating the role of governments and businesses. Ultimately, if the right policies and infrastructure are in place, Asian economies can unlock domestic giving that is 11 times the foreign aid flowing to them. Questions such as what factors encourage or inhibit altruism in a society were answered through the lens of the DGI as the basis for emerging a policy consensus towards societal reengineering. Mehvesh Mumtaz Ahmed (Director of Research for the Center for Asian Philanthropy and Society, Hong Kong) – explained how well Pakistan is doing in terms of philanthropy compared to India, Sri Lanka and China.
