Umair Javed is a PhD candidate in Political Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science. His research interests span the study of Pakistan’s emergent middle classes, state-society relations in the global South, and the political economy of governance and reform in democratising countries. He has previously worked as a researcher at the Department of Human Geography, King’s College London, the Center for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP), and as a governance specialist at The Asia Foundation. Umair Javed currently writes a fortnightly current affairs column for Pakistan’s premier English language daily, DAWN. His academic and opinion writings have been published in Economic and Political Weekly (EPW), Herald, The National, Business Standard, and The Friday Times.
Javed has a MSc in Politics from School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
