Greening Pakistan’s Energy Sector

Season 2: Episode 7 

Pakistan is one of the most impacted countries by climate change, consistently ranking among the top ten countries on the vulnerability scale. Yet it relies heavily on fossil fuels for its energy consumption, which globally contributes to about 75% of the total GHG emissions. Hence, it has become essential to switch to renewable energy. In this episode, Dr. Nauman Ahmad Zaffar and Amna Shahab explore climate change and the energy sector in Pakistan, discuss the path towards greening Pakistan’s energy sector, and examine the challenges and the potential solutions associated with the transition towards renewable energy. 

Dr. Nauman Ahmad Zaffar is the Project Director of the National Incubation Center, LUMS. He worked as a Vice President and Head of Professional Services at Techlogix Pakistan Pvt. Limited. Dr. Nauman joined LUMS School of Science and Engineering in 2010 as a full-time faculty member where he is working on establishing a research base at SSE in the area of Power Electronics, Smart Grids and Renewable Energy.

Amna Shahab is the director at an environmental consulting firm called SAMA Verte. She is an accomplished environmental economist with a Master’s degree from Imperial College UK. With 18 years of experience in the field, Amna has made significant contributions to the development and improvement of energy efficiency policies for both domestic and commercial projects in Pakistan.
