Legal Obstacles to Economic Development

Consortium for Development Policy Research (CDPR) hosted its fifth Lahore Policy Exchange talk on “Climate Change and Sustainable Development.” The world has seen a host of changes that will have consequences for developing economies including Pakistan. This policy talk focused on rising protectionism, economic slowdown in advanced countries and how low oil prices pose risks for Pakistan that it will need to address to maintain stability. Masood Ahmed, former Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department at the International Monetary Fund and incoming President of the Center for Global Development was the speaker at the event. He spoke on how these global trends intersect with Pakistan’s own economic priorities, and how it can adapt. Dr. Ijaz Nabi, Chairman of the Board, CDPR, moderated the discussion and provided opening remarks. Policy exchange dialogue took place at the end, when the question and answer session took place amongst the audience and the presenters.
