Consortium for Development Policy Research (CDPR) hosted its first Lahore Policy Exchange talk on health and education in collaboration with the International Growth Centre (IGC)’s Pakistan Program, the Centre for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP) and the Institute of Development and Economic Alternatives (IDEAS). The Lahore Policy Exchange focuses on key development issues up for debate that are discussed amongst academics, policy makers and the members of civil society. The seminar focused on low outcomes of health and education in Pakistan; with nearly half of its children experiencing stunted growth due to malnutrition and the highest percentage of out-of-school children in South Asia. The event featured two speakers to address these topics. Dr. Faisal Bari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Development and Economic Alternatives (IDEAS), spoke on education in Pakistan and why its out-of-school rate is still so high. Dr. Syed Ali Hasanain, Assistant Professor at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), discussed both environmental and systemic factors that lead to poor health outcomes. Dr. Ijaz Nabi, Chairman of the Board of the Consortium for Development Policy Research (CDPR), provided opening remarks and moderated the policy talk. Policy exchange dialogue took place at the end, when the question and answer session took place amongst the audience and the presenters.
