CDPR in collaboration with the International Growth Centre (IGC) and Sustainable Energy and Economic Development (SEED) Programme. organised a launch event for the Policy Note: Property Taxation in KP: Reforms for an Efficient, Effective and Equitable Tax Policy on Wednesday, October 28 from 4:30-5.30pm.

The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (GoKP) is designing a reform program to strengthen the province’s Urban Immovable Property Tax (UIPT) system in order to lay the foundation of sustainably financed public investment that can realize the potential of urban areas as engines of growth and development. In this webinar, panelists will discuss the policy note covering the conceptual framework for the reform program in KP. It has drawn on evidence of property tax reforms in Punjab and other developing countries at similar levels of capacity and facing similar challenges.

The speakers were:

Mr. Hasaan Khawar (Team Leader, Sustainable Energy and Economic Development (SEED) Programme in KP) who gave introductory remarks about the SEED program and its support for the reform agenda;

Dr. Ali Cheema (Director Mahbub-ul-Haq Center LUMS, Senior Research Fellow, IDEAS and Lead Academic IGC) who gave a presentation on the key findings from the policy note;

Mr. Ghazan Jamal (Senior Advisor, Excise and Taxation, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) who outlined the next policy steps for KP.
